Posidonia or Dellagrazia (from the Latin Madonna della Grazia) is a village located at the southwestern side of the island, 15 kilometers from Hermoupolis. It is considered one of the most beautiful areas of the island.
The wealthy people of Syros had chosen Posidonia for their vacation.
At the center of the village you will see many manors of Renaissance architecture with huge and wonderful gardens. The village’s club, a building of 1913, even has a tennis court and all the rich people used to meet there during their holiday. Right across the club there is a tower that transfixes all visitors. Two kilometers after Posidonia we find Parakopi, a village full of majestic villas.
Posidonia was the only village that had a police station.
It has a big church dedicated to Saint John that celebrates on August 29.
There is also a children summer camp, “Saint Paul”.
The first beach you see is Fetouri beach, with sand and crystal clear water. After walking on a difficult road full of turnings, you reach the largest beach of the island, Agathopes. An ideal beach for all ages, with sand and many trees that offer their shadow to the visitors. The beach is organized with sunbeds, pedal boats, canoe, beach volley and beautiful restaurants.
There is also a training school for diving.
After 700 meters, you’ll meet another beach, Komito, that has a beach bar and a wind surf school for the more daring.
